Way back in 2013 (pre-Afternoon Tease cafe) I ran a series of events called Sweeteasy…where I hosted a high class drinking den with a twist, the twist being a carefully devised set menu of prohibition era and cake inspired cocktails and cocktail inspired cakes.
This time, I’ve partnered up with the wonderful Cambridge Distillery who know an awful lot about gin, producing their own range of exclusive gins. I’ve handed the booze baton over to these guys, who will craft 3 delicious gin cocktails for you.
Alongside these, I will serve 3 very special cakes, which I have devised using the tasting notes of 3 of The Cambridge Distillery’s interesting and unusual gins. Think Japanese gin martini coupled with a sesame & orange brownie topped w/ caramel, black sesame seeds and dark chocolate & citrus ganache.
We will be transforming the Cambridge Distillery’s beautiful showroom in Grantchester into our very own ‘Sweeteasy’.

Surely the best way to get through an extremely cold & snowy start to the week is to line yourself (and your friends/colleagues/family if you’re feeling generous) up with a cakey treat!
I’ve been hearing mutterings of AT cake withdrawal and have decided to get back in the kitchen & do some baking for you!
So, here are the details of how you can get your hands on a whole cake this Friday (2nd March)….
There will be a limited number of the following cakes available…
Chocolate Guinness cake w/ cream cheese icing
Carrot cake w/ cream cheese icing
Raspberry & vanilla sponge w/ vanilla buttercream
Please note that I am only selling whole cakes, not slices. They are £35 each for an 8 inch cake, which serves 12 generously and it will need to be collected from the Mill Road area (exact location will be divulged when your order is confirmed) on Friday 2nd March between 12 & 1pm.

3 months on from the sale of Afternoon Tease, life is very different indeed. The main factor being that I actually have a life once again 🙂 Don’t get me wrong, I loved my little cafe and definitely miss (most aspects of) cafe life, however, being on the other side of it has made me realise just how hard I was working and the toll it was taking on me to keep up with the relentless needs of a small business.
But, that’s enough of that! What I have most definitely missed is cooking, baking and feeding people! So, for 1 day only, Saturday 17th February…Afternoon Tease is coming back for a brunch pop-up!
The wonderful people at The Waggon & Horses in Milton have handed over their little pub to me for the day and I’m really chuffed to be joined by some of my awesome AT team…
Unlike the cafe, this will be a bookable event and there will be 4 slots to choose from, 11am, 11.30am, 2pm or 2.30pm.
We will be offering a 3 course brunch menu featuring AT old faithfuls but also a couple of specials inspired by my recent (well Instagram documented) trip to New York.

Also, the best part of popping up in a pub is that the bar will be open for you to purchase your tipple of choice…prosecco or bloody Mary anyone!?
Now for the important part…how to book your place!
Please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org telling me how many people you would like to book for, their names and which slot you’d like (11am, 11.30am, 2pm or 2.30pm). I will then send you instruction on how to pay and how to select you menu choices. Your booking will not be confirmed until all of these have been received.
Due to the nature of the event and menu, I’m afraid not all dietary requirements will be able to be catered for. We will be able to accommodate vegetarian guests and will be able to make a selection of the dishes gluten free but please let us know when you book.

The wait is over, I’m really happy to introduce you to the guys who will be moving into #13 King Street in just a few weeks…Stem + Glory.
These guys opened their first plant-based eaterie 1 year ago over on Chesterton Road and have done an amazing job of putting their name on the map with their brunch & fast service eat-in & take away healthy lunches as well as their evening & fine dining menus.
They have gone from strength to strength and are really looking forward to moving into a city centre location. Ok, so you won’t be able to get your Afternoon Tease style bacon & egg brunch anymore but they’ve got an awesome brunch and lunch menu up their sleeves and are definitely going to continue selling crumpets, delicious cakes and their own version of banana bread, which I can personally vouch for (it’s lush!) and have no fear, you will still be able to get your hands on that delicious coffee from Caravan Coffee Roasters!
You’ll also see some familiar faces when you visit the all new Stem + Glory 2 as many of the amazing AT team are staying on with the new venture.

I’ve got some pretty big news to share with you all, which may come as a surprise…I have decided to close Afternoon Tease.
It felt fitting to announce it here, as my blog played such an intrinsic part in the setting up of my cafe. This time of year in 2013, we were in the crazed midst of the fit out (which I blogged here) and heading swiftly towards our grand opening on 25th October. It’s been a crazy, exhilarating and amazing 4 years, in which I have poured my heart, soul and life into Afternoon Tease. My little cafe has just seemed to get busier and busier thanks to you lovely people, so it may seem strange to you that I’m choosing to close. It was a very big decision to make and not one I’ve taken lightly but although I am so proud of what I, and everyone who has worked with me in my little venture, have achieved and very much want to leave it on a high, I just feel ready for the next adventure. I don’t want to become one of those disenchanted people working in a job that they no longer enjoy. I most definitely have not exhausted my love of food but as yet haven’t decided which way it will take me next…you’ll have to watch this space 🙂
We won’t be closing the doors of AT for a few more weeks, so you still have time to get some more coffees, cakes, toasties & brunches in and to come and see us for chats and smiles. I’ll keep you posted on a closing date and believe me, we’ll be going out with a bang!
